Looking great in your wedding dress is a big deal so just in case you’ve overlooked something, here’s three things not to wear with your wedding dress.
- Watches
It’s a day you’ll remember for the rest of time, but even so this is no time to wear a time piece. Even if it is a classic stainless steel watch from a high-end line of watches for women, it will not add any glamour to your day. Watches convey a sense of urgency and that you have to keep track of the hour, but this day is all about love and losing track of time. Leave the watch at home, or at least give it to a bride’s maid. Let everyone ask her what time it is. Besides, years down the line, when you’re showing off pictures of your big day, you won’t have to answer the question “What were you waiting for?”
- Galoshes
The one thing you don’t have any control over (besides the guests’ behavior at the reception) is the weather. No matter what, come rain or shine, for better or worse, do not walk down the aisle in galoshes. Not only will they track mud through the church, it will ruin the moment as you drown out “Here Comes the Bride” with the sloshing of your rubbers. If it’s raining cats and dogs on the wedding day, have a picture with your umbrella and galoshes, but take them off before any of the guests see.
- Tennis shoes
As long as we’re on the topic of footwear maybe we should mention that tennis shoes send the wrong message at a wedding. Your wedding day is the last day that you want to look like you might need to make a quick getaway, especially on foot. Everyone wants their wedding to make an impression, but even the marathon runners and brides showing up late for their vows should first vow never to race to the alter in tennis shoes, no matter how broken in and comfy they are.
